HALPIN secures MEDEA, a new Horizon 2020 CSA Project

HALPIN learned this week that a Horizon 2020 proposal in which we're a partner have been successfully evaluated by the European Comission and is to be funded. This proposals is a Coordinated Support Action. CSAs provide funding to cover the coordination and networking of research and innovation projects, programmes and policies.
Called "Mediterranean practitioners network capacity building for effective response to emerging security challenges, MEDEA", the project will be funded under call SEC-21-GM-2016-2017 - Pan European Networks of practitioners and other actors in the field of security. The MEDEA project will undertake four interrelated actions:
- Establish and Operate the MEDEA network, a multi-disciplinary network across the Mediterranean and Black Sea countries focusing in Border Protection and other Security and Disaster-Related tasks
- Engage participants in anticipatory governance on emerging security challenges that the Mediterranean and Black Sea regions
- Push for the co-creation of security technology and capabilities innovations between practitioners and innovation suppliers
- Establish and annually update the Mediterranean Security Research and Innovation Agenda (MSRIA), that identifies areas where security & defence research is needed and the establishment of recommendations for European Security & Defence technology investments.
MEDA is a 5 year project with 19 partners and will be led by Kentro Meleton Asfaleias (KMEA), Greece whom HALPIN has worked with in a number of previous maritime operations projects. MEDEA will commence in the latter half of 2018. For more, see the MEDEA project page.
